This is our review of the Riese & Müller Nevo4 eBike. The latest version of the Nevo from Riese & Müller is a testament to their commitment to innovation and quality. The Nevo is one of our most popular bikes, and for good reason, the Nevo4 can be specified to match a huge variety of riders and rider requirements.
Gearing Options and Variants
The Nevo4 comes with an impressive array of gearing options, catering to various riding preferences and styles. You can choose from the standard Touring, Vario, and Rohloff options, each offering a unique riding experience.
One of the highlights of the bike we reviewed, however, is the new Enviolo automatic option, which revolutionizes the way you ride by automatically adjusting gears based on a cadence (Cadence in cycling means the number of revolutions per minute that a cyclist’s pedals make, usually around 60-90) that the rider chooses. It’s a beautifully simple option that, when combined with the ‘Auto’ mode in the assistance for the Bosch motor, provides a lovely ride experience where you only need to remember to steer and brake so you can enjoy the scenery. It’s not for everyone, some may prefer the light and responsive chain and cassette of the Touring specification or the bigger range of the Rohloff hub, but it certainly appeals to the rider who wants to keep things simple.
Additionally, the bike is available in high-speed variants, and the choice between GT and non-GT versions allows for further customization, depending on your riding needs.
Frame Color and Design
Aesthetic appeal is a big part of the Nevo4’s charm. The step-through frame is really accessible and easy to hop on and off, the frame oozes quality and considered design.
It is available in three colours: Dark Gray Matte, Pure White, and Dynamic Red Metallic. Each colour has its unique finish, with the red offering a metallic sheen and the grey a sophisticated matte look.
Size and Customisation
The Nevo4 is designed to accommodate riders of various heights and preferences, with four size options: 43, 47, 51, and 56 cm. The bike’s versatility is further enhanced by its wheel size variations and tyre options, making it suitable for different terrains and riding conditions. There’s a GT and a non-GT version available. The non-GT version has a 28″ wheel (thinner and taller), which is great for long-distance touring or the GT which is a 27.5″ wheel and a fatter tyre for rougher terrain. Whether you prefer long-distance road touring or off-road adventures, there’s a Nevo4 configuration that’s perfect for you.
Tyre Options
The Nevo4 offers different tyre options, including the standard Schwalbe Moto X Tyre and an upgraded Johnny Watts tire for more rugged terrains. This choice allows riders to tailor their Nevo4 to their specific riding environments, be it urban streets or off-road trails.
Braking System and Safety Features
The Nevo4 doesn’t disappoint with its top-notch braking system. Equipped with hydraulic disc brakes from Magura, the bike ensures reliable stopping power in a variety of conditions. The addition of the new Bosch 2.0 ABS system enhances safety, preventing the front wheel from locking up and providing a more controlled and secure braking experience.
Suspension and Comfort
Comfort during the ride is taken care of by the bike’s pneumatic suspension system. It’s adjustable to suit the rider’s weight, ensuring a smooth ride across different terrains. The suspension lockout feature is a handy addition for those who prefer a more efficient ride on smoother surfaces.
There’s also the option to add the Comfort Kit which adds curved handle bars and a wider saddle enabling a more upright position for a more relaxed ride.
The Nevo4 also comes with the option of one of Riese and Muller’s more innovative new features, the heated saddle. For an additional £47 a heated saddle can be added which heats to 37 degrees Celcius and adds a touch of luxury on cold days. We found it’s pretty good for warming hands as well when you’re stopped!
Battery and Power
The Nevo4 is powered by a robust 625W battery, with an option to upgrade to a 750W variant for extended range. This flexibility in power options means that whether you’re out for a short commute or a long adventure, the Nevo4 can be specified to meet your energy needs.
Cockpit and Display Options
You can choose between a basic setup (no cockit with an Intuvia 100 display) or an upgraded cockpit with the Kiox 300 display, offering a more interactive and informative riding experience. The Bosch LED remote is a nifty addition, providing essential information at a glance.
Lighting and Visibility
Visibility is key, and the Nevo4’s upgraded Supernova lights, with main beam and dipped options, ensure you’re seen and can see, regardless of the time of day. These powerful lights are integrated with the bike’s battery, offering the convenience of no additional charging. Just keep your main battery charged and that’s it!
Unique Features of the Tested Model
One of the standout features of the tested Nevo4 model is the absence of a traditional gear shifter, thanks to the Enviolo automatic system. This system takes care of gear changes, allowing for a seamless and intuitive riding experience. It’s particularly impressive how the bike adapts to different riding conditions, making gear shifting a thing of the past.
