There’s nothing quite like riding around Dartmoor on a bike that seems purpose-built for long days of adventure. The Superdelite5 from Riese & Müller is a beast of a machine – incredible power, dual batteries, and specced for the most challenging terrain. It’s heavy, sure, but it rides like a dream. We really thought that the Pinion MGU setup on the Delite5 might have a run on the new Superdelite, but having ridden this amazing bike, we’re torn with both bikes having strengths. Watch the video above or read on to find out why.
what's new?
New frame with sleeker lines and improved ground clearance.
Bosch Gen 5 Performance Line CX motor, shipping with 85Nm torque and 600W peak power – with a free July update lifting it to 100Nm and 750W.
Dual Battery system on the Bosch smart system for the first time:
800Wh in the downtube
400Wh in the top tube
1,200Wh total for huge range.
Gearing Options
Touring – Chain & Shimano CUES 11-50 cassette (great gear range, but more maintenance required)
Vario – Enviolo + belt drive (great for town riding, but not big hill territory)
Rohloff E-14 – Electronic shifting, 540% gear range, belt drive (The one I rode, and the one I’d choose. It’s expensive, but worth it.)
Honestly, the Rohloff hub with the Bosch Gen 5 motor has changed my mind. I was leaning towards the Delite5 with the Pinion MGU, but this combo is just that good.

Motor and Batteries
At the heart of the Superdelite5 is Bosch’s latest Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor, paired with a dual-battery setup for serious range and power. The motor delivers 85Nm of torque and up to 600W of peak power, but what’s really exciting is the upcoming free software update (expected July), which will boost output to 100Nm and 750W peak power. That’s a significant jump—and one I’m really looking forward to trying. Even before the update, the power delivery is smooth, responsive, and incredibly capable. Climbing steep Dartmoor hills felt effortless, and I never found myself wanting more grunt.
The Superdelite5 is the first Riese & Müller model to pair Bosch’s Smart System with a twin battery. It features an 800Wh battery in the downtube and a 400Wh battery in the top tube, giving you a massive 1,200Wh total capacity. That means serious range, ideal for long-distance adventures, daily commuting, or multi-day touring. I rode 21 miles of off-road terrain, much of it in Auto or Turbo mode, and still had 43% of the battery left at the end.
The best part is that you rarely need to think about the range. With this much capacity and Bosch’s intelligent power management, you can just ride how you want, use Turbo for the climbs, enjoy Auto on rolling terrain, and still finish with plenty in the tank. If you really want to shave some weight, you can remove one of the batteries, but honestly, I’d keep both in. The added confidence of a huge range far outweighs the few kilograms saved.

Weight
Let’s get it out of the way: this bike is over 36kg, depending on the gearing specification chosen. But when you’re riding it, you simply don’t care. Turbo mode chews through the climbs, and with all that battery capacity, range anxiety is gone. Want to shave some weight? Leave a battery at home (though I wouldn’t).
Frame and Sizing
The Superdelite5 is available in three frame sizes – 47cm, 51cm, and 56cm – offering a comfortable fit for most riders. At 6’1″, I found the 56cm frame to be absolutely spot on, even without needing to raise the dropper post. The bike is finished in a single colourway called Moss, a beautiful powder-coated green that looks particularly striking in natural light. Watch the review video at the top to see how great this looks. Underneath the paint, the frame is crafted from 40% recycled aluminium and manufactured in Portugal.
Suspension and Ride Feel
Unlike earlier versions of the Superdelite, the Superdelite5 doesn’t have a GX upgrade option—and that’s because it doesn’t need one. The off-road pack and Fox suspension come as standard, giving you top-tier performance straight out of the box. The front fork offers 120mm of travel, while the rear Fox Float Rhythm shock gives 110mm, delivering a confident and capable full-suspension setup.
On my 21-mile gravel ride through Foggintor Quarry, the bike felt incredibly composed. It soaked up bumps and chatter with ease and remained stable and predictable over loose surfaces and rough terrain. I didn’t have a single sketchy moment, even on steeper climbs or faster gravel descents. The suspension does a fantastic job of smoothing out the trail while still feeling responsive and efficient.
Now, there’s no denying this is a heavy bike- over 36kg, with both batteries. But when you’re riding, it really doesn’t feel like it. Turbo mode chews through the climbs, and with all that battery capacity, range anxiety is gone. Want to shave some weight? Leave a battery at home (though I wouldn’t). The weight is so well distributed that the handling stays light and intuitive, especially with the help of the powerful Bosch motor. You’re not wrestling the bike, you’re just riding—and it rides beautifully.
That said, the Superdelite5 isn’t built for ultra-technical mountain bike terrain. It can handle most rough trails with ease, but if you’re tackling something extremely rocky, rooty, or steep, you may find yourself hopping on and off, lifting it over obstacles where lighter trail bikes would just flow through. It’s more than capable, but it’s also built for long-distance adventure, comfort, and control, not enduro racing.

Displays and Navigation
The Superdelite5 comes equipped with both the Purion 200 and the Kiox 500 displays as standard. This dual-screen setup gives you a wealth of riding data and control options right at your fingertips. The Purion 200 is sleek and integrated, providing quick-glance ride metrics and power control, while the Kiox 500 adds a vibrant, full-colour display with deeper insights, training data, and navigation tools.
If you prefer to use your phone for mapping, there’s also the option to swap out the Kiox 500 for a smartphone grip with built-in wireless charging. For an extra £52, this gives you a clean mount with induction charging—ideal for navigating with your favourite app while keeping your phone powered up. I tested it with Komoot, which syncs effortlessly through the Bosch Flow app. Even in the middle of nowhere, it gave me a clear, reliable route and was easy to follow on the screen.
Brakes and Bosch ABS 2.0
The Superdelite5 comes standard with Tektro TRP HD-EU835 disc brakes, which offer solid, reliable stopping power with four-piston callipers front and rear. Good brakes are essential on a bike of this size and capability, and the Tektros do a fine job -strong, progressive, and easy to modulate, even when riding fully loaded or heading downhill on uneven surfaces.
However, the real game-changer is the optional Bosch eBike ABS 2.0 system (£373 extra). When specified, the bike is equipped with a set of Magura MT C ABS brakes, and the addition of ABS completely changes the feel and safety of braking, especially on loose, wet, or unpredictable terrain. It prevents the front wheel from locking up under hard braking, helping you maintain steering control and avoid sliding out.
What really impressed me is how natural the ABS feels. There’s a gentle pulsing sensation through the lever when it’s actively working, but it’s subtle, more of a reassurance than a distraction. It makes hard braking feel incredibly safe and controlled, which is especially valuable on a bike that weighs over 36kg. With that much momentum behind you, knowing you can stop quickly and safely, without risking a front-wheel slide, is a huge confidence boost.
If you’re planning to take the Superdelite5 off-road, ride in wet conditions, or carry luggage regularly, I’d highly recommend ticking the ABS box. Yes, it’s another outlay of cash, but it adds a layer of safety that makes a big difference in real-world riding.
Lighting and Carriers
The Superdelite5 has a high-end lighting setup and serious carrier capabilities. Up front, the Supernova M99 Mini Pro-25 headlight delivers both main beam and dipped beam modes, giving excellent visibility on dark trails and unlit roads. At the rear, the Supernova TL3 Pro tail light includes an integrated brake light, adding visibility and safety in traffic or poor weather conditions.
When it comes to carrying gear, Riese & Müller has continued to develop the rear carrier design. The standard carrier is permanently fixed to the frame and integrated with the bike’s Control Technology suspension. This means it’s co-sprung with the rear wheel, ensuring excellent ride quality and stability, even when fully loaded. If you prefer a lighter, more minimalist look, you can opt for the pannier rack, which supports panniers up to 7.5kg each while keeping things sleek and simple.
RX Chip and Security
Security is built into the Superdelite5 with the inclusion of the RX Chip as standard. This system gives you an integrated GPS tracker and alarm, offering peace of mind whether you’re popping into a cafe or leaving the bike locked up for hours. When armed, the alarm sounds if the bike is moved, while flashing lights add a visual deterrent. If the worst happens and someone rides off with it, the GPS tracking lets you see the bike’s location via the app. It’s a brilliant feature that more manufacturers should offer, and on a premium bike like this, it feels essential.

Pricing
Starts from £7,519 for the Touring (chain) model
Around £7,979 for the Vario
Close to £9,379 for the Rohloff hub build (like the one I tested)
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a premium, adventure-ready, off-road capable e-bike with all the tech, torque, and toys, the Superdelite5 is hard to beat. The new motor is powerful but surprisingly quiet, especially with the Rohloff hub. I’ve ridden the Delite5 Pinion, and while that’s brilliant, the silence and fluidity of this build might just make the Superdelite5 my new favourite bike of all time.
