When buying a Riese Müller bike, one of the biggest concerns people have is where to get it serviced.
You will probably have noticed that there is not an R&M dealer on the corner of your street or probably not even in your local town. But don’t let this put you off buying a bike from Riese & Müller. Servicing is not complex and does not have to be carried out by an R&M dealer. And due to the quality of the bikes and components used, maintenance is likely to be needed far less frequently.
You may find some dealers telling you they will not service any bikes they did not sell. I know of a couple of dealers that actively do this, thinking it is a great ‘sales tool’, where really they are actually alienating their potential customer base. If this was how they treated you before you even bought a bike, I suspect the relationship will not improve once they have your hard earned cash.
Let’s be clear, when we decided to become dealers of Riese & Müller, we had to sign a contract agreeing to support all R&M customers and treat them as a priority. This includes servicing bikes even if we didn’t sell them to begin with.
And sure enough, we get people that have bought their bikes from a competitor in a sale or whist they were on holiday. And it does hurt a bit to know we missed out. But that doesn’t mean we won’t help these people. So often these customers go on to recommend us to their friends saying things like, ‘we wish we had bought our bikes from EDEMO’.
So if you are local to one of our showrooms in Bristol or Nailsworth and you didn’t buy your bike from us. Don’t be shy, come and say hello. We love R&M bikes as well, and enjoy chatting about them and teaching you to get the very best from your investment.
What warranty do I get with my Riese & Müller e-bike?
Riese and Müller grant a two-year warranty against defects on the bikes. The frame warranty can be extended to five years if you are the first owner, you register your bike with R&M within the first 4 weeks and you keep the logbook filled out with all the required service and maintenance.
What is the service Interval?
Prior to delivery your chosen dealer will complete a Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI). This should be completed by a cycle mechanic in line with BS EN 147 64/65/66 & 81. You will find detailed evidence of this being completed by our mechanics in the form a a PDI checklist in the hand-over documents.
Following hand-over of your new bike, you will be responsible for having the maintenance completed. The following schedule is required if you wish to benefit for the extended frame warranty, but it also makes good sense to get the bike serviced at regular intervals.
R&M refer to this scheduled work as inspections and not services. The first inspection is due at 400km or no later than 3 months after the hand-over. This is mostly an inspection to ensure you are happy with the functioning of the bike and to ensure nothing has come loose.
We try and avoid the necessity for this inspection by spending about half a day building every bike we supply. We know these are likely to be going to places where our customers cannot easily return them to us, so it is important the bike is built well to start with, even if it does take us a lot longer than most other dealers.
This is a very simple inspection and hopefully should not need any significant adjustments.

Your first ‘proper’ service is due at 2000km or 12 months. As part of our PDI we will have set a service reminder set on your bike’s head unit, so you can’t miss it! If you haven’t covered 2000km it’s still a good idea to have the bike looked at after 12 months, unless your mileage is particularly low.
Your bike service interval thereafter is every 2000km and is really worth having done to keep your Riese and Müller bike in tip-top condition.
Maintenance on Riese & Müller bikes is generally lower than on a standard bike, but always check brake pads and braking surfaces – these tend to wear a lot faster on an e-bike due to the weight of the bike.
If you want to take your bike to your local independent bike shop, you can always provide them with the inspection list from Riese & Müller.
CAN I GET MY RIESE & MÜLLER E-BIKE SERVICED AT EDEMO?
At EDEMO we pride ourselves on providing the highest levels of customer service. We are more than happy to service any Riese and Müller bike, whether we have sold it to you or not. However, this may not always be economically viable based upon your location.
We charge for servicing at your home based on a cost of £1/minute of travel. If we can’t complete the work there and then, we will bring your bike back to our workshop in Nailsworth or Bristol.
As a Riese & Müller dealer, we offer to service any R&M e-bikes that are within the 2 year extended warranty period. If we can’t fit you in soon enough or if we are too far away, then there’s also a network of Riese and Müller dealerships all over the UK who are honour-bound to help you as well.
